Wedding Venue Visit: Helpful Hints

So if you didn't already know, Bright Star Ranch & Resort is a wedding venue (a beautiful one that we would love for you to come see!). That being said, we know a few things about wedding venue visits. There are a few things to consider when choosing your venue, so we have compiled a few things for you to keep in mind when visiting potential venues!

First of all, if you didn't know that you should visit your wedding venue before booking, now you know! You don't want to show up on your special day and be in a dump. Just because it looks great in pictures doesn't mean that it looks great in person.

For ceremony venues:

Is a ceremony rehearsal included?

This isn't the biggest deal if it isn't included, but it’s always nice to practice exactly how it         will be on the day of.

Think about where the sun will be.

You don't want to be blinded by the sun during your “I Do” moment or have your pictures         turn out badly because the sun was in the way. Think about the time of day and where the windows in your ceremony venue are.

Parking

Is there enough parking for all of your guests? What about closer or easier access for your handicapped and elderly guests?

For reception venues:

Is there a space for a band/DJ?

Most venues have this, but this is still a good question to ask so that you can better plan out where your tables will go and how they will be arranged.

Is there a designated area for catering? What will the flow be like during the meal?

Bottle-neck crowding is common during buffet-style wedding meals. Does this venue have a pre-planned flow?

How far from a hotel are you?

This is especially helpful so you can provide it in your invitation to out of town guests.

Are there alcohol restrictions?

Limitations? Provided bartenders?

Are there decor restrictions?

No nails in the walls? No decor not on tables? No open flames? These are all things to keep in mind when planning your table decorations.

Is any equipment provided?

Having a venue that provides tables and chairs for free is a simple way to save a lot of money!

Do they have a list of vendors they have previously worked with?

These vendors will already know the rules and regulations of the venue and will have worked with the people running it before so it will likely take some stress off of you.

For outdoor venues:

Are there restrooms available for guest use?

This is a necessity. If they don’t have a facility for restrooms, check out some other options such as bathroom trailers (they’re a whole lot nicer than port-a-potties) and even ask if the venue will pay for it!

Can electricity be run out to all of the necessary areas?

For example, the DJ stand and any lights you may have.

Is there a volume limit for during the reception?

The last thing you want is wedding crashers in the form of cops.

Is there a backup in case of inclement weather?

This is a safety net incase the unspeakable (rain) happens. This is very important to ask BEFORE you sign a contract. If there is no backup venue available, consider asking about refunds in case of rain.

Keep in mind that venue visits should be fun! This is your chance to see where you could potentially get married, that’s exciting!!! So enjoy this time with your fiancé to scout out your venue. You only get this day once, so make sure that you are happy and don't let yourself get bullied into signing a rental contract before you are absolutely positive that this is where you want to get married.
